Nansemond-Suffolk Academy baseball standout Nic Psimas will be heading to play NCAA Division I baseball. He committed to play baseball at Virginia Tech after going through an active recruiting process over the summer.

“The recruiting process was pretty good but also hectic at times,” he said. “Once I got used to it, everything became a lot easier to handle when it came to the schools that were interested in me. I am happy to say I am committed to VT, and a big thank you to everyone that has helped me get to this point.”

Psimas also had interest from the likes of James Madison University, Virginia Military Institute and High Point University before deciding on Tech. All programs were Division I schools.

“After I went out there, I really liked the school,” Psimas said of choosing Virginia Tech. “Both my parents went there, and my sister is currently there as well.”

VT currently sees Psimas as a pitcher. The Hokies want to continue to develop him so that he will better be prepared when he steps on the mound for the Hokies. The senior Saint felt a sense of relief after making his decision.

“This has all been building up for a long time,” he said. “I feel a lot better now that I have decided.”

Psimas is a standout not only on the baseball field but also in the pool. With his future being in baseball, the senior will still swim for the Saints this winter and follow that up with his last year of high school baseball.

Last season, Psimas was a second team All-State player. His play over the summer helped his stock rise. He had initially been getting interest from schools at the end of last season before his summer added onto that. The Hokies went 21-33 last season, so there could be room for Psimas to come in and make an impact immediately.
