Westside Elementary School in Isle of Wight County will be closed on Tuesday, which would have been the first day of school, due to emergency air-conditioning repairs, according to Lynn Briggs, division spokeswoman.

She said the division’s maintenance department discovered during a routine check on Monday, in preparation for the first day of the new school year, that the school’s cooling tower had failed sometime late Sunday or early Monday.

The division is working to find a replacement part or make repairs to the part, Briggs said.

A decision about school on Wednesday will be announced as soon as it is known on Tuesday.
