A witness on scene talked to the Suffolk News-Herald and said the two were involved in a fight and one shot the other at least three times.

News station WTKR quoted witnesses as saying the fight started over whether actress Halle Berry should play recently deceased singer Aretha Franklin in a movie.

After the shooting, Hatton was transported to a hospital to be treated for his injuries and later released, the city press release stated. He was then transported to the magistrate’s office, where warrants were served, and then to Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where he remains held without bond.

Throughout the morning, a section of roadway in front of Beamon’s Unisex Salon at 388 E. Washington St. was closed with crime scene tape as detectives and crime scene investigators located and collected evidence in the street, on the sidewalk and along the exterior walls of the buildings.
