Woodrow Green Jr.

Woodrow Green Jr., 76, passed quietly and peacefully into eternal rest on Aug. 6, 2018 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Suffolk, and the elder son of the late Woodrow and Elizabeth Wood Green.
Woodrow was a 1963 graduate of East Suffolk High School and was drafted into the US Army Infantry Corp in December 1966. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968 and 1970 to 1971. He was stationed at military bases in Germany, Oklahoma, North Carolina, New Jersey and Mississippi during his military career. While in the military, he became a drill instructor earning the rank of First Sergeant, and he retired as Master Sergeant as an ROTC cadet teacher at Alcorn State University in Mississippi. After 20 years of military service, he entered civilian employment at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth as gate guard security for 15 years.
Woodrow is survived by his wife, Naomi Hicks Green of Suffolk; two sisters, Elizabeth G. Andrews (Richard) of Suffolk and Linda G. Jones of Chesapeake; one brother, Milton S. Green (Yvonne) of Chesapeake; three aunts, Virginia Cuffee of Portsmouth Estella W. Jones and Mattie Wood of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018 at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Interment will be at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemeter. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
