Suffolk native Chuck Clark recorded his first NFL in-game interception Thursday evening in a preseason game.

The Baltimore Ravens took on the Chicago Bears in the 2018 NFL Hall of Fame game, which is the first game of the season and is held the same week that the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame class is inducted.

Normally, neither team plays its starters during the game, leading the way for depth guys to see valuable time. Since it is the first NFL game played since February, it attracts a lot of viewers.

Clark saw a lot of time at safety for the Ravens during the game. It was an opportunity for Clark to continue to build on the things he has done since he was drafted in 2017.

He finished the game with a tackle and an interception. His interception came in the first quarter of the game, when a tipped pass fell into his hands and he returned it for a couple of yards. The Ravens ended up winning the game 17-16, and many Ravens media outlets believe that Clark stock continues to rise with the preseason performance he had.

“The Ravens love Chuck Clark, because he is a good tackler and he plays well on special teams,” Chris Schisler of the Ebony Bird said. “Clark saw a tipped pass, and he positioned himself perfectly to make the play. If Clark shows that he can make plays on defense, he may get more chances on the field. Clark provides value to the Ravens as a special teams player.”

Spectators believe that the more Clark continues to improve, the more time he can see on the field. He has two veterans in front of him who start; however, with the evolution of NFL offenses there can be more time for Clark. With more receivers and different types of players who can make offenses multi-faceted, Clark can be another cover man for the Ravens. His own defensive back coach believes that Clark is smart enough and athletic enough to be a really good player in the NFL.

“The NFL is a matchup league, so you just got to take advantage of matchups, and you’ll play,” Clark told Penn Live. “That’s the league right now.”

Baltimore will face the Los Angeles Rams at home at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Clark will get a chance to build on his first performance this week.
