James Robert White

James Robert “Bob” White, of Walnut Street, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, July 15, 2018. Bob was born in Isle of Wight County on July 18, 1931, to the late Charlie L. White and Grace R. Toomer. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth E. White, and brother, Charlie White.
Bob was educated in Nansemond County schools and served in the U.S. Army and the Korean War. He retired from Birdsong Cold Storage and Obici Memorial Hospital.
For more than 50 years, Bob was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church. He was a member of the Suffolk’s Booster Club for more than 45 years.
Bob leaves behind to celebrate his life and to cherish his memory, his children, Karen Watson, Keith White, Stephanie Artis (Phillip), Katrina Cotton (Calvin), Kendall White (Tonica) and Gerald Copeland; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Willie Mae Griffin; sister-in-law, Ella Greene; special son, Kennieth Harrison; and a host of other family and friends.
Mr. White’s visitation will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018, at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will take place at noon Monday, July 23, 2018, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, and he will be laid to rest with military honors at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
