After a hot and sweaty Fourth of July on Wednesday, Suffolk residents may have some relief with more rain and storms set for the weekend, according to National Weather Service Wakefield.

Meteorologist Mike Montefusco said on Tuesday that Thursday’s forecast calls for high temperatures in the upper 80s before dropping to temperatures in the low 70s in the evening. Friday’s high will pick up to about 90 degrees while Saturday and Sunday are projected to reach highs in the mid-80s.

Moderate readings on the UV index will rise to between eight and 10 on the 10-scale index, peaking around 1-to-2 p.m. on Thursday. Montefusco recommended that sunscreen should be applied hourly when the UV index is at its highest.

“The higher that range goes on the spectrum the more you need to make sure you get protection from the UV rays,” he said in a phone interview.

The odds of more rain should be between 30-to-40-percent by Friday, with showers possible between Friday and Saturday. Montefusco pointed out that the likelihood of showers should be greater going into Friday evening.

“On the downside, we have the chance of rain hanging around that Friday and Saturday period, but on the plus side we’re going to be a bit cooler,” he said.
