The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ soccer team had three girls earn All-State honors.
NSA recently finished a season where they reached the state championship game. By all standards, it was the best season in quite some time for the girls’ soccer program. Because of the success, NSA saw its fair share of accolades.
Abby Herrod headlined the All-State first team for NSA. She was the only player to make the first team, which was expected for Herrod and the season that she had. She scored more than 30 goals on the season and had multiple games where she scored four goals. She was key to NSA having its highest poll ranking ever at No. 2. Though she didn’t know for sure she was going to make the All-State team, she knew for sure good things were going to happen for her and her team.
“It was an amazing way to end a great season,” Herrod said. “That recognition is so honorable, and I am glad to have had that opportunity my last season. It was also great to see my teammates get recognized as well. Just an all-around great way to end the season.”
Alivia Giles and Mallory Mizelle both earned second team All-State honors. Giles returned to NSA this year and picked right back up where she left off, providing good scoring for the Lady Saints.
“It is a great feeling knowing I was recognized as one of the top players in the state of our division,” Giles said. “After I got all-conference I knew I was going to have to keep up my play in the state playoffs. My teammates and coaches were a big part of why I was able to do this.”
Mizelle, only a freshman, made the second team, which is a big accomplishment. She mentioned that she was excited when she got the news, and it will motivate her going into her sophomore season. To get ready for next season, she wants to continue to keep working on her weaknesses and make them strengths.
