With a 26-1 onslaught Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Cavs advanced to the second round of the Class 3 Region A tournament.

The Lakeland High School softball team had a big opening-round win at home against Booker T. Washington High School. They scored 26 runs in six innings and earned themselves a spot in the second round of the Class 3 Region A tournament.

Tessa Johnson struck out nine as the pitcher for the Lady Cavs.

Lakeland will go on the road to face New Kent High School today. The Lady Cavs are the No. 6 seed, while New Kent is the No. 3 seed.
