To the editor:

We have been struck time and again by this pandemic of violence at schools. Last week, another attack where youth died for no reason other than being at school to get an education.

Parents are trying to take action across the nation. Locally, in both Chesapeake and Suffolk, parents are coming together to form grassroots efforts to address some of the costs of securing our children. In Suffolk, currently, the School Board has taken time and great interest in the growing efforts of the Suffolk Parents 4 School Safety Committee.

Unfortunately, emails have been sent to local delegates Chris Jones and Matthew James by members of the Suffolk group, with not even an automated reply. Surprising, especially for Mr. Jones, who sits on the Safety Committee.

The group is engaging as many people as possible via social media. There are events being organized to support these efforts across Suffolk. Any parent with children in Suffolk schools is welcome to attend and contribute.
