Suffolk native Davon Grayson will be a pro football player with the New York Giants.

The 2018 NFL Draft has come and gone, and the former King’s Fork High School Bulldog standout was not selected in any of the seven rounds. However, he was able to pick his own destination as an undrafted free agent. He chose to sign with the Giants.

The outlook for Grayson prior to the draft indicated he could possibly be drafted in the sixth or seventh rounds. However, a big question for a lot of teams was Grayson’s injury history in his time at East Carolina University. Various knee and back issues that ended a couple of his seasons early likely became a red flag to some teams.

He had options to sign with a few different teams, as he was regarded as a high priority free agent, but chose the Giants.

During the spring and into the summer at training camp, Grayson will compete with other receivers for a chance to make an impact as a rookie for the Giants. Immediately after his senior season, he competed in the NFL Players Association game and got good feedback from scouts. From there, he went on to the NFL Combine, where he posted good workout numbers. His final showcase was at the ECU’s Pro Day late in March before the draft last weekend. Over the course of the last couple of months, he met with numerous NFL teams and worked out for different teams.

Over the past four years, several ECU receivers have gone on to NFL rosters. Grayson could be next in line of that list of receivers. Even though Grayson signed as an undrafted free agent, he is not guaranteed a spot. He will have to perform well in the preseason to make the final 53-man roster. However, even if Grayson is cut by the Giants, he could be added to the team’s practice squad.

The Suffolk native becomes the second Suffolk native in back-to-back years to sign or to be drafted by an NFL team. His former King’s Fork teammate, Chuck Clark, was drafted in 2017 to the Baltimore Ravens.
