An award-winning Christian music band from West Palm Beach, Fla., will bring their anniversary tour to Suffolk this May.
Tenth Avenue North will perform with special guests We Are Messengers on May 4 at the Hub 757, 6801 Bridgeway Drive. The band has been traveling for “Over and Underneath: The Tenth Anniversary Tour” in honor of their 2008 debut album of the same name.
Carrollton residents Chris and Marissa Spady, both members of Believers Church based at the venue, organized the concert with proceeds benefiting the church.
“It’s really big for the church,” said Chris Spady, an avid fan of Tenth Avenue North’s emotional tracks like “Hold My Heart.”
With a name originating from an east-west road in Palm Beach County, Tenth Avenue North has made tremendous waves in the Christian music scene since “Over and Underneath,” which earned the band’s first gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The group was awarded New Artist of the Year by the Gospel Music Association of America in 2009, along with Song of the Year in 2010 for “By Your Side.” The 2017 album “Followers” featured No. 1 singles such as “What You Want,” “I Have This Hope” and “Control.”
Lead vocalist and guitarist Mike Donehey will perform an engaging and thought-provoking set with guitarist Jeff Owen, keyboardist Brendon Shirley and bassist Ruben Juarez III. Drummer Jason Jamison will round out the group as they play crowd favorites from their debut album, along with others from their catalog like “Don’t Stop the Madness,” a favorite of Jamison’s.
“It’s a great, creative track musically,” Jamison said in a phone interview. “It’s kind of one of those organic pieces of music where Mike just started singing. It was really fun writing that song.”
The group’s discography features a variety of musical styles that will be on display at the Hub 757 in an energetic flurry of tracks with moments for a slower, reflective pace.
“We definitely want people to be moving,” Jamison explained. “There’s dancing and clapping and singing, but then there are songs where we slow down and try to engage people’s minds. Maybe people leave with a little nugget of wisdom to chew on.”
Jamison and his bandmates plan to put on a show that will interact with members of the audience, and there will be time after the singing stops for them meet fans, he said.
“The music industry has changed so much in 10 years. The ways you consume and buy music has changed,” he said. “But the one thing you can’t really replace Is a live show. It’s where we come to life.”
Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the show will begin at 7 p.m. General tickets are $20 each, and VIP tickets are $55. Visit tenthavenuenorth.com/tour for tickets.
