The Nansemond River High School DECA club competed and had multiple successes at the Virginia State Leadership Conference which was held in Virginia Beach last month.

Dylan Heyman and Tiecura Hill competed in the Community Service Project, and they presented their Breast Cancer Awareness Day Project, which raised money for the American Cancer Society, and were top-10 finalists in the state.

Kayla Barrington, Taylor Martin and Jaylen McGrit competed in the Entrepreneurship Start-Up Business Plan event and created JKT Hair and Beauty Salon in Virginia Beach, and they received a Certificate of Achievement.

Taylor Jones, Jordan Wells and Taihuannia Woodard-Norfleet competed in the Public Relations Project and presented the Y Street Program.

Eric Chandler competed in the Automotive Services Marketing event and received a certificate of achievement.

Jaylen Anderson, Bria Blankumsee and Alexis French competed in the Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan event and created a Nail Bar Icon in Suffolk.

Brittney Johnson competed in the Entrepreneurship event.

Jasmin White attended the Student Leadership Development Academy and served as the voting delegate for the Nansemond River High DECA Chapter.

Nansemond River High School DECA Chapter received the Blue Chip Award, which is the top award in the state, for submitting the DECA Program of Work Annual Report. They also received a certificate for participating in Virginia DECA Day.

Tiecura Hill received a plaque for serving as DECA’s District 21 co-president.

1. Michele Duncan received a DECA throw for serving as DECA’s District 21 co-advisor. Candace Credle and S. Michele Duncan each received a plaque for being an Outstanding DECA Advisor.

The DECA members had a great experience at the DECA State Conference and had an opportunity to network with students from all over the entire state of Virginia, according to a press release from the chapter.
