Nosh set for early May

The Suffolk community has the chance to enjoy the view of the Nansemond River and samples from local restaurants in early May.
The Rotary Club of Downtown Suffolk will host the Nosh on the Nansemond again this year at Constant’s Wharf.
“It is similar to the Taste of Suffolk. It’s designed to give restaurants in Suffolk a chance to allow people to come and sample what they have to offer,” said Steve Jackson, treasurer of the Rotary Club. “This event allows us to raise money for our charities.”
Nosh on the Nansemond, along with other events, raise money for the Rotary’s charities funds that fund grants and scholarships for the community. They also provide funds to the Cheer Fund, ForKids, Suffolk Literacy Council and the Western Tidewater Free Clinic.
The event costs the patrons $25 for full access to the food at the event, and 100 percent of proceeds are put towards the charity fund.
“I just like the idea that people that aren’t familiar with some restaurants get to see what they have to offer and learn more about them,” Jackson said. “It also supports a charity, so it’s a win-win situation.”
The event will be from 3 to 7 p.m. on May 3, and it offers the chance to end a work day early to get together with friends and enjoy food, Jackson said.
“It’s mainly a food event, but it is so much more than that,” Rotary Club President Win Winslow said. “It’s a networking event where people can get together and try out new restaurants and see people you don’t get to see all the time.”
Along with food and drinks, patrons will get the chance to enjoy BadDadz, a vocally driven acoustic trio.
“They will provide high energy music that will give a great backdrop for the food tasting and fellowship going on,” Winslow said.
The event will take place outside at the wharf, so Rotary hopes for good weather.
“It’s a nice open-air situation, because we have good music and good food,” Jackson said. “It’s a good afternoon event to get out of the office early and have some fun.”
“I would say it gives an outdoor small-town festival feel,” Winslow said. “You’re going to go there and hang out on the riverbank with music playing, and you’ll be able to taste food and enjoy one of your favorite libations. You can spend an afternoon with friends knowing that you are helping Suffolk charities.”
