Runners and walkers can help fight cancer at an upcoming fundraising event in Suffolk.
The Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. will hold its first FabulouZly Fit & Finer 5K Walk and Run on April 28 at the Suffolk Seaboard Coastline Trailhead in Driver.
The chapter has been serving Suffolk for more than 50 years, and its latest event is meant to support health, wellness and the American Cancer Society.
“The trail is actually newer to Suffolk and it’s utilized very often, and I just thought it would be a great opportunity to get the community involved,” Shelia Coleman, member of the ways and means committee for the Suffolk chapter, said in a phone interview.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. with the first 200 participants receiving a custom-made T-shirt. Walkers and runners will start at 9 a.m.
The five fastest male and female adults will receive medals, along with the top three youth runners. Refreshments will also be available.
Family, Friends and Fun Travel, Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, C-Fit Studio and Suffolk Parks and Recreation are several of the confirmed sponsors for the event.
The sponsorship deadline is this Saturday, and proceeds will benefit the chapter’s contribution to the Suffolk Relay for Life.
“So many people have been impacted by cancer, including several members of our chapter,” according to Clementine Cone, chair of the ways and means committee, in a phone interview. “We wanted to do something to boost our level of participation and the funds we contribute to the American Cancer Society.”
