To the editor:

A letter to the editor, “Sentence was too light” published March 28, discussed former officer Abdul Shabazz Wiggins, who, according to earlier accounts posted online by your organization, was employed at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.

The letter also discussed the mission and purpose of the Virginia Department of Corrections.

While the jail and the VADOC work hand-in-hand, the jail is not directly affiliated with the department, and Mr. Wiggins was not employed by the department.
