Nylah Young and Camary Harris were selected to the Class 4 All-State team for the Lady Bulldogs.
King’s Fork High School’s girls’ basketball team finished one game shy of the title game this year. They had tremendous success this season and were still regarded as one of the top girls’ basketball teams throughout the state. With the team’s strong season, its athletes are also collecting their fair share of accolades.
Young and Harris were selected Class 4 first team All-State. Harris, a senior, lead the Lady Bulldogs at the point guard position, averaging 15.5 points per game to go with eight assists and seven steals. The senior was also a first team all-district and all-region selection. She will be headed to Bethune-Cookman University to play NCAA Division-I basketball. Last season, Harris was left off of these very same lists while many thought she was deserving. She used it as motivation in the offseason, and the results showed.
Young averaged more than 20 points and more than 10 rebounds a game for the Lady Bulldogs. Her strong season led to her being selected as the Southeastern District Player of the Year, and she was a first team All-Region selection as well. The junior stepped into a more defined role this season after the loss of Amesha Miller.
“I am really grateful for all of the awards,” Young said. “I knew I had it in me to meet the goal of potentially becoming the Player of the Year and first team region and state, and I did it.”
Both Lady Bulldogs had their hearts set on a state championship and were upset they weren’t able to deliver one, but that didn’t take away from the strong season both of them had. Young will get another shot at a state title next season when she returns for her senior year. King’s Fork finished 22-4 and was the Southeastern District co-champions and the Class 4 Region A runner-up.
