William Randolph Maybery

William Randolph “Randy” Maybery was born in Pampa, Texas, Dec. 8, 1949, and passed away March 14, 2018, at the Hampton VA Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace E. Maybery Sr., and his mother, Edna Earle Densmore Maybery. He is survived by his older brothers, Wallace E. Maybery Jr. (Gale Nicholson), Phillip E. Maybery (Susan Maybery), and his fiancé, Barbara Rayburn.
Randy served in the U.S. Navy as a Navy corpsman. He went back to school at age 50 and obtained his nursing certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He served at several medical facilities in the area, including the Hampton VA Hospital. He started piano at the age of 5 and received some of his early voice training in the Texas Boys Choir. He continued to be involved in music as a soloist, pianist/organist and music director in many local churches. He was the music director of the singing group Prime Time Singers at his death. He was raised a Master Mason at McAlister Lodge No. 185 in Whaleyville and affiliated with Lodge No. 220 in Virginia Beach and was the musician for both lodges. He was also a member of Esther Chapter No. 37 Order Eastern Star Chapter No. 37 in Portsmouth, where he served as the organist and was appointed associate grand organist for 2017-2018.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 23, 2018, at Main Street United Methodist Church, 202 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434, with a reception following in the atrium. Randy asked that his ashes be spread at the family farm in Texas, so Phillip and Wally will be making a motorcycle trip to Texas in late April to carry out his wishes.
