Warriors slide past Hornets

In a close game, the Warriors pulled off a close 11-10 win against Deep Creek High School on Thursday.
The Nansemond River High School baseball team held off the Hornets for its first win of the season. Deep Creek got the scorefest started by going up 3-0 in the first inning. However, Nansemond River strung together three solid innings in a row to build a significant lead. Heading into the fifth inning, the Warriors were up 10-5.
A resurgent effort by Deep Creek in the fifth inning brought them back to life, scoring five runs and tying the game at 10 heading into the bottom of the fifth. A sacrifice fly by Matt Culbert scored the run needed to seal the deal for Nansemond River.
Nick Arnold scored three runs for the Warriors. Jarrett Mayer had five runs batted in. Zach Cain was awarded the win for his pitching duties, but Gage Williams, Tristian Williams and Daulton Manning also pitched.
