An attorney for the owner of the site of the former Lowe’s building on Godwin Boulevard said there are plans to redevelop the site.

The building, vacant since 2001, was demolished this week.

Charles Lollar, attorney for the owner, Project Ten LLC, said the owners are happy to have the building demolished.

“They have concluded that Suffolk, in that particular area, has a lot of potential for a commercial area,” Lollar said. “A new planned redevelopment for the site is the way to go. It will be commercial, but not sure of specific use. We’ve had a number of inquiries.”

Dr. Sherrell Aston, one of the principals of Project Ten LLC, did not return calls for comment.

The owners have incurred a number of fees since they have owned the property. In August 2017, Project Ten LLC owed $3,452.52 in fees, interest and penalties. The last payments made for the property were made on Nov. 17, according to an email from city spokesman Tim Kelley.

Project Ten LLC paid $3,225.01 towards the stormwater fee and $561.68 towards two code violations.

The City of Suffolk believes that the demolition is “a step in the future redevelopment of the site for a viable use,” Kelley stated in an email.

Prior to demolition, the property was deemed a public nuisance by the city. A violation letter, obtained by the Freedom of Information Act, said the property was a threat to life or property because of the building’s deficiencies.
