Both Suffolk and Chesapeake fire departments responded to a residential structure fire in the 4800 block of South Hampton Roads Trail at 5:56 p.m. Friday.
Both cities responded because the call was initially received by Chesapeake dispatchers due to cell towers routing the call to them, according to a city press release.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue units responded to the scene from a separate report of a brush fire which turned out to be the same incident. Suffolk’s units assisted the Chesapeake units to get the fire under control. The fire was deemed under control by 6:30 p.m.
The abandoned home was located back in the woods and declared a total loss, according to the press release. No injuries were reported with the incident.
The cause of the fire is under investigation with the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office.
