The Warriors boys’ basketball team fell to 0-4 after a loss to Oscar Smith High School on Tuesday at home.

Nansemond River High School got off to an 8-0 start against a tough Oscar Smith High School team, but seemed like that was the only momentum they could build as a team. Oscar Smith went on a 12-3 run to end the first quarter 12-11.

In the second quarter, the Tigers gained more momentum off of the shooting performance of Josef Anderson off of the bench. Anderson hit five threes in the second quarter alone to push the Tigers’ lead. At halftime, Oscar Smith was up 37-24.

In the second half, Oscar Smith did not allow the Warriors to come within arms’ reach. They outscored the Warriors 43-36. The closest the Warriors closed the gap was 10 points. After a good defensive effort by the Warriors in the first half, Oscar Smith’s leading scorer Nyzaiah Chambers was held scoreless. In the second half, he rattled off 20 points while also finishing with 10 rebounds.

Jeremiah Lewis led the Warriors in scoring again with 14. Josh Hale followed right behind with 12.

Nansemond River will go on the road to face Great Bridge High School at 7 p.m. Friday.
