A Jingle Bell parade at night

Suffolk loves a parade.
From the Fourth of July bike parade in Eclipse to the Driver Days parade that kicks off the eponymously named fall event to the Peanut Fest parade and the Holland Founders Day parade — all of the city’s big celebratory processionals pull in big crowds.
But the most exciting one of them all is arguably the Christmas parade, known among city officials as the Holiday Parade, and it is scheduled for Saturday night in downtown Suffolk.
The Christmas parade is the only one in Suffolk to be held at night, and many of the participants take advantage of the unusual setting to light up the darkness with gaily colored lights. But the star of this parade is certainly Santa Claus, who always makes an appearance at the end of the line.
This year’s theme is “Jingle Bell Rock,” so those attending can expect to get a big dose of Christmas music to go along with the great sights. There will be floats, equestrian units, marching bands and festive vehicles along the route, which moves from West Washington Street to North Main Street and ends at Finney Avenue.
The grandstand will be located in front of the SunTrust building in the 100 block of North Main Street, where local marching bands and other performers will stop to regale the crowds.
Free parking for the event will be available in all public parking lots, including the Godwin Courthouse, Commerce Street and Market Park lots.
Who doesn’t love a parade?
