A Suffolk Fire & Rescue battalion chief will spend 10 days in jail for a charge of driving while intoxicated.

Craig Abraham was charged with driving while intoxicated on May 6. He appeared in Norfolk General District Court Monday morning and entered a guilty plea.

Abraham was sentenced to 12 months in jail with all but 10 days suspended.

He’ll also be required to complete the Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program and pay a $250 fine, his attorney, Warren Kozak, said after the hearing. He will also have a restricted license for a year, which includes six months using an ignition interlock device.

He will be allowed to drive to and from work, medical appointments and other necessary travel allowed by law, Kozak said.

He’ll also be on unsupervised probation for two years.

Reached by phone later in the day, Kozak declined to comment further.

City spokeswoman Diana Klink confirmed Monday that Abraham is still employed with the city.
