Thanksgiving food distribution planned

The Saturday before Thanksgiving in Suffolk usually features two huge food giveaways for families in the community who are less fortunate, but one of those apparently won’t be happening this year.
Impact Suffolk, which usually holds a big food giveaway involving multiple local churches behind Farm Fresh, disbanded earlier this year. Former director Win Anderson said last week that he was not aware of any efforts that will replace the food distribution.
Another giveaway, however, is still happening. LW’s Lawn Service and MWM Property Management and Investments plans to distribute 2,000 turkeys and trimmings this Saturday to recipients who have received a voucher. The distribution will happen from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and at 1 p.m., leftovers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Suffolk Humane Society will also be on hand with its pet pantry to provide pet-related needs to people having trouble caring for their pets, Mike Duman said.
