Amos David Neill went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Margaret Neill; his son, David; and his brother, Al. He passed away at his home with his loving wife of 29 years, Margie Howell Neill, by his side. He is also survived by his daughters, Kimberly, Lori, Wanda and Alisha, all of Michigan; sister, Juanita Zakrzewski, of Michigan; brothers, Byron, of Michigan, Phil, of Virginia, and Gary, of South Carolina; 14 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory are his wife’s daughter, Donna Mayer, of Illinois; sons, James, Richard, Charles and Steve, all of Virginia; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Amos was a veteran of Vietnam. He was a chaplain for the American Legion No. 327, of Norfolk, and he was a member of the VFW. In 1997, he ran for the Republican House of Delegates in the 76th District in Suffolk, and in the year 2000, he was a candidate for the 15th District of the Senate of Virginia. He was a published author.
Amos donated the Bible that is in the chapel at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. He sat in Obici’s chapel many times to pray for others, even with his own pain. He volunteered his time and money to help others in need. We will love and miss him as he goes to be with our Lord, Jesus.
Memorial service arrangements will be announced at a later date. Family and friends are welcome to visit or send condolences to Margie and family at 3224 Archers Mill Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
