The Warriors defeated the King’s Fork Bulldogs Tuesday on the road as the two rivals clashed for a volleyball matchup.
The win streak for the Warriors has now been extended to two. Nansemond River High School traveled over to their cross-town rival to grab their first 3-0 sweep of the season. With the win, the Warriors take the city championship, as they defeated Lakeland High School last week as well. Coach Angie Gatling was happy about her team’s effort.
“They did excellent. The boys played so well,” she said. “They had the opportunity to step up, and they did.”
The energy was there between both teams Thursday night. Gatling saw some familiar faces, as she used to walk the King’s Fork sidelines as the volleyball coach back in 2015. The Warriors have been getting better advancing their passes, which has been put them in position to win two games in a row. All of the players are starting to gain more confidence with each performance.
Bryce Renshaw had a good game for the Warriors with seven kills and three aces. Will Aydelatte added 14 assists. From here, Gatling wants to see her team’s confidence continue to rise.
“I want them to keep realizing what they are capable of,” she said. “They know they have an expectation to live up to, and we are just trying to get there. I saw their confidence starting to come through lately, and that will be good for us going forward.”
King’s Fork remains winless but will face its other city rival, Lakeland, on the road at 7 p.m. Thursday. Nansemond River will face Hickory High School at home, also at 7 p.m. Thursday.
