Taste of Suffolk set for Saturday

Suffolk’s annual Taste of Suffolk Street Festival is set for Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Taste of Suffolk is in its 11th year, having attracted thousands of residents and visitors from all over Hampton Roads.
The event site in Downtown Suffolk will stretch down North Main Street starting on Finney Avenue and cover Washington Street from Commerce to Saratoga Street.
Main Street will be lined with booths featuring tasty treats from restaurants located across Suffolk presenting some of their specialty food items. Merchandise vendors will offer a variety of goods and services. There will be a new-car show by local Suffolk dealerships. And there will be entertainment all day, with live music and contests.
Master Gardeners will provide a demonstration for all of the garden enthusiasts, while Washington Street will host this year’s children’s, area featuring a rock climbing wall, bounce house, crafts, face painting, amusements and more.
New this year will be a beer garden showcasing craft brews from local and state-wide breweries.
Taste of Suffolk will feature some of Suffolk’s best eateries offering a limited menu of their best cuisine offerings. Restaurants will offer their items at minimal pricing, allowing event attendees to try a variety of foods.
This year’s festival will feature two stages located on Washington Street and Market Street.
Appearing on the Main Stage at North Main Street and Washington Street will be the following:
- 11 a.m. — Popwire
- 1 p.m. — Wesley Spangler
- 3 — The Janitors
The Contest Stage at North Main Street and Market Street will offer a DJ and contests between musical acts at 12:45 p.m. and 2:45 p.m.
There will be adult eating contests throughout the day on the Market Street Stage. Those who are interested in participating in the adult eating contests can sign up at the contest tent.

The Taste of Suffolk Children’s Area will be held along West Washington Street this year. The kids’ area will have a rock-climbing wall, a bounce house, clowns, face painters and craft activities.
The beer garden will be located at the Oderzo Fountain area beside the Mills E. Godwin Jr. Courts Building, with adult beverages and games. Brick & Mortar Brewing Company, the new brewery set to open in Downtown Suffolk in 2018, will be on site to feature samples of its local brews.
Merchant vendors will feature everything from home improvement items to handmade fabric pieces, to decorative items.
Road closures will be at Finney Avenue and North Main Street down to Fayette Street, Oakdale Terrace, Freemason Street and Finney Avenue, Washington Street from Commerce Street to Saratoga Street and Bank Street at Commerce Street. The roads will reopen at 8 p.m. Shuttles for parking will not be available.
