Former King’s Fork High School basketball standout Sugar Rodgers has been chosen to play in the WNBA All-Star game on Saturday.

Rodgers, a New York Liberty guard and KFHS legend, will be playing in her first All-Star game. She will be representing the Eastern Conference as an injury replacement, taking the place of Washington Mystics forward Elena Delle Donne, who injured her ankle.

This is Rodgers’ fifth season, and she is currently ranked third in the WNBA with 39 three-pointers. She averages 12.7 points per game to go along with 4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists. In her season-high game, Rodgers scored 21 points against the Seattle Storm, a game in which she drained six three-pointers.

In addition to the All-Star game, the Suffolk native will also participate in the WNBA Three-Point Contest. She is also one of nine players making their first All-Star appearance.

The Liberty has two All-Star representatives headed to the game, including Rodgers and teammate Tina Charles. New York is currently No. 3 in the Eastern Conference and has the No. 6 overall record in the WNBA.

In her time at King’s Fork, Rodgers was a McDonald’s All-American and one of the premier players in the country. Rodgers won every major award from Player of the Year awards to All-State selections.

To this day, she owns the records for most career points, rebounds, assists and blocks.

She attended Georgetown University, where she amassed 2,518 career points.

In 2013, she was selected by the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA draft before being traded to the Liberty in 2014. Last season, she finished third in the WNBA Most Improved Player Award.

The All-Star game will be played at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and will be aired on ABC. The three-point contest will take place at halftime. Rodgers will go up against Jasmine Thomas, Allie Quigley, Maya Moore and Sue Bird.
