A Carrollton woman died Saturday evening after being hit while crossing the road near her home.

Anne Marie Pruitt, 33, of the 1000 block of Whippingham Parkway, was hit by a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado at the intersection of Whippingham Parkway and Carrollton Boulevard, according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

The accident happened about 10:22 p.m., Anaya wrote in an email. Pruitt was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The Silverado stayed on scene, and no charges are expected against the driver, Anaya stated in the email. Anaya also said alcohol is considered a contributing factor.
