A man was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries following a dirt bike accident on Monday evening.

The accident was reported at 6:21 p.m. by a citizen who came upon the scene in the 5300 block of Indian Trail, according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found the 27-year-old had left the roadway and struck a culvert, ejecting him from the dirt bike, according to the press release. He was not wearing a helmet.

The man was flown by Nightingale to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. No further information was immediately available.
