Lakeland High School senior linebacker DeAndre Faulk is receiving a lot of attention from colleges.

Lakeland had a successful football season last season. For the first time in history, the Cavaliers hosted and won a playoff game.

Most of the team will be returning next year, including Faulk. The 3A All-State linebacker’s aggressive style of play has helped catch the eyes of colleges.

Faulk has been a starter on the Lakeland football team since he was a freshman, and he is getting ready for his last season. Each season he has found a way to improve his game, which is getting him noticed.

He currently has an offer on the table from Marshall University, an NCAA Division I school in the Conference USA. He has picked up other interest from schools like Old Dominion University, James Madison University, University of Maryland and North Carolina State University.

Each of those schools are NCAA Division I schools, as well.

With an even stronger senior season than his junior season, Faulk will have multiple Division I schools from which to choose to play at the next level. So far, his recruiting process has gone well. However, he wants to be sure he will be able to grow as a player immediately at whatever school he chooses.

“A lot of schools are showing interest,” he said. “I’m just trying to do what every athlete needs to do, and that’s put out good film and keep my grades as high as possible.”

He doesn’t want to get too caught up in the recruiting process, because he still has things he wants to accomplish things at Lakeland. Faulk said he wants to go out with a “bang.”

With Lakeland making regionals last season he is aiming higher. Though he made second team All-State last year, he is aiming for the first team this year.

“I’m just putting in the work so my teammates and I can be successful,” Faulk said. “I want us to have home field advantage the whole playoffs this year.”

Lakeland is currently in their offseason program and will start camp in about a month.
