Two King’s Fork High School girls’ soccer players have signed to play soccer at the next level.
Skylar Wall, a defender, will continue her education at Emory and Henry College. Rebecca Washburn, a forward, will play at Lynchburg College.
Wall said her recruiting process was different. She reached out to colleges to express her interest in wanting to play at the next level. She finally got in touch with the Emory and Henry coaching staff. She went on her visit and felt that is where she wanted to be.
“I was walking around the campus and felt like this is where I wanted to be,” Wall said. “I felt like I wanted to spend the next four years of my life there. The environment and the people there were so friendly.”
Wall’s family wanted her to make the best decision for herself, as all parents do. Having that feeling also reassured her that she was making the right decisions. Wall enjoyed her senior year, as she accomplished goals she set for herself. She wanted to make it to states and also become a first-team All-State player.
At Emory and Henry Wall plans to major in athletic training or physical therapy. Wall wants to step onto the campus with a positive mindset and excited for what the future holds.
Wall and Washburn were both part of a King’s Fork girls’ soccer team that made history. It was the first time that they reached the state tournament. They were also the first girls’ soccer team in Suffolk Public Schools to reach the state tournament.
“Each year, in some way, this team has made history,” Wall said. “Being able to break so many records is something not very many teams can say.”
