Suffolk police have arrested two men in connection with a series of thefts from vehicles and homes in downtown Suffolk.

Jacob Tyler Goff and Robert Lee Allen, both 20, were arrested Wednesday. Each is charged with four counts of tampering with an auto, three counts of petit larceny, two counts of credit card fraud, two counts of identity theft, and one count each of conspiracy to commit a felony and possession of burglary tools.

A citizen called police early Wednesday morning to report that two adult males were tampering with a vehicle at a home on South Broad Street, according to a city press release.

Officers were unable to locate the suspects when they arrived at the scene, but several hours later they were notified that two subjects matching the descriptions of the original suspects had attempted to use stolen credit cards at a business in the 800 block of West Washington Street.

“Due to the quick actions of observant citizens in contacting police when criminal activity was seen, officers were able to apprehend these offenders,” Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink stated in the press release.

She also reminded residents of the police department’s “Lock it … Don’t lose it” campaign to encourage people in Suffolk to always lock their car doors.

Locking car doors, she stated, helps protect your valuables, it helps eliminate potential ways for criminals to gain access to your home, and it helps you and your neighbors feel more secure, as the word gets out that your neighborhood is not an easy target for crime.
