Team WAR takes regional championship

Nansemond River High School’s girls’ track and field took first place at the regional championship last weekend at Gloucester High School.

Team WAR continued its yearly dominance again last weekend as the girls took first place at the 5A South regional track meet. They claimed first place with 101 team points, 16 more than the second-place team.

Nansemond River had four champions last weekend. Syaira Richardson placed first in the 100-meter and 400-meter dashes and in the long jump. She had a personal record of 19-08.00 in the long jump. She also had a PR in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.18.

Kori Carter was a champion in the 200-meter dash with a PR of 24.36. Carter also placed second in the 400-meter behind Richardson with a time of 55.99, also a personal record.

Asia Crocker, Brene Donaldson, Jasmine Watson and Jazmine Tilmon were a part of a 4×100 relay team that placed second.

Now, Nansemond River’s track and field team will compete for the 5A state championship this Friday and Saturday at Todd Stadium in Newport News. In the conference championship meet, the girls took first place while the boys took third. Team WAR will look for its third title in three weeks.
