Saints softball advances to semis

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s softball team advanced to the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Division II state semifinals after a 15-0 win Tuesday over Atlantic Shores Christian School.

The Lady Saints move one step closer to their ultimate goal after a big home win over Atlantic Shores. It was is the second win already this week for the Lady Saints, who defeated Greenbrier Christian Academy for the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools championship Monday.

Tuesday’s game was over in the fifth innings because of the VISAA 10-run-lead tournament rule. NSA had 14 of their 15 runs in the first two innings.

Gabby Infranco, Delaney Taylor and Madi Currin had three hits each. Taylor added two runs and five RBIs. She totaled nine RBIs in two days, and she also took home the TCIS tournament MVP on Monday.

Reese Byrd handled pitching duties on Tuesday. She struck out six batters and allowed only one hit.

NSA will face St. Margaret’s School today at 3 p.m. at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex in Petersburg. If NSA wins this game, the Lady Saints will play for a state championship May 20.

St. Margaret’s defeated Fredericksburg Christian 15-0 in their quarterfinals matchup. Semifinals and state championship games are held at Dinwiddie Sports Complex.
