Nansemond River High School’s softball team defeated Hampton High School on the road Tuesday afternoon 11-0.
The Lady Warriors are 4-0 in their conference and remain at the top after Tuesday’s win. If they finish out their remaining conference games strongly, the Lady Warriors will have a chance to clinch the top seed while also clinching an automatic berth to regionals.
“We have been playing pretty well as of late,” Lady Warriors coach Gabe Rogers said. “These games have significant meaning, because it dictates our post season. With these last few games, we want to finish the regular season out strong and move closer to our goals. We just want to stay focused and play good softball.”
Rogers feels that his team knows the things they can accomplish and what is ahead of them. As long as they remain consistent, they can continue to dominate. In the four conference games the Lady Warriors have played, Rogers likes how loose his team has been. As a result, it has made the team more confident.
Since the beginning of the season, the Lady Warriors have had to adjust to each other, and now it is paying off.
“I’m very happy with how we have been playing lately,” the Lady Warriors’ Katelyn Biando said. “It’s been a long journey since the beginning of the season. I think we have done a good job adjusting to each other and we have improved each time we’ve stepped on the field. There is always room for improvement, but we are getting better each day.”
Nansemond River will play Warwick High School on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
