In Girl Scouts, girls are always counting down to the next adventure they will go on together.

With summer camp still a couple of months away, nearly 60 Girl Scouts spent the week getting a taste of the fun to come when school lets out during Spring Break Day Camp at A Place for Girls, the Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast regional program center in Chesapeake.

Marissa Weaver, a Suffolk Girl Scout mom, volunteered at the camp, while her daughter, Aryanna, enjoyed an action-packed week full of activities for girls to spend time outside, take part in science experiments, let their creativity flow through art projects and make new friends.

Aryanna, who is finishing her kindergarten year, is new to Girl Scouts. Marissa signed her up to be part of the organization because she wanted to help her daughter meet new friends and learn new skills.

“I have two younger sons, and I have found Girl Scouts to be the perfect place for Aryanna and me to be able to spend special time together,” Marissa said.

When Marissa heard about the day camp over spring break, she thought it would be the perfect way for them to spend the week. During the camp, both Marissa and Aryanna enjoyed an interactive workshop with Mad Science of Hampton Roads, exploring the world of engineering through LEGOs with BrickHeadZ, putting their culinary skills to the test during a cooking class and much more. The two also took part in the sleepover on the fourth day of camp.

“The best part about the camp for me was getting to know all of the girls,” Weaver said. “In just a short amount of time, we have all gotten to know one another really well, and I will miss them.”

Similar to the spring break camp, Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast will host Camp Outback, a summer day camp, at A Place for Girls from July 31 through Aug. 25. All girls in grades 1 through 8 are welcome to attend, and registration is open now.
