Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s softball team defeated Cape Henry on Thursday, continuing a winning streak.

NSA came out strong in the first inning, putting three runs on the board by Madi Wilson, Madi Currin and Addy Greene.

Reese Byrd had pitching duties, allow no runs and only one hit. She also struck out nine batters.

NSA’s biggest inning came in the sixth, when they ran off with six runs. During that inning, Currin had a single, Emerson Puzey had a double and Wilson had a triple.

“We had high energy the whole game,” Currin said. “It was a great team win.”

It was also senior day for the Lady Saints’ only senior, Delaney Taylor. She finished the day with one RBI and one run scored.

“My Senior Day was a really great experience,” Taylor said. “I wouldn’t want to have my Senior Day with any other team; they are what made it so special. They planned such a great day, I couldn’t be more thankful for them.”

“Delaney is going to be missed,” Lady Saints coach Brittany Thornburg said. “She’s one of the first ones in and the last ones to leave.”

Taylor is happy with the way her senior season is going, and she is enjoying everything that comes with the success the team has been having.

“I think this is the best season yet,” she said. “Me and my team’s performances have been absolutely amazing. I’m so proud of what we have accomplished. I can’t wait to see where we go from here.”

The Lady Saints have now extended their win streak to eight. Their record is now 14-2. Thornburg still doesn’t believe her team has played its best game yet. NSA will play Isle of Wight Academy on the road at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

“As we get closer to the end of our season I am hoping that’s when we will be at our best,” Thornburg said. “It’s always good to be at your bet for postseason play.”
