Contractor course set at PDCCC

The deadline to register for a Basic Contractor Business Licensing class is April 21.
This session will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on April 25 and May 2 at Paul D. Camp Community College’s Regional Workforce Development Center, located at 100 North College Drive, Franklin.
This is an eight-hour course that provides an overview of the statutes and regulations governing contractor licensing in Virginia. The course, led by Donald Goodwin, Franklin’s director of community development, is approved by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation and Board of Contractors.
Successful completion earns a participant .8 continuing education units.
Topics will include starting a business in Virginia; laws and regulations; contractor limits and classifications; Virginia statutes relating to contractors; statement of consumer protections; the licensing process; obtaining a contract; customer service and new home warranties; Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code; underground utilities; insurance; Virginia taxes; labor law; erosion and sediment control; Virginia Occupational Safety and Health; and liens.
The cost, which includes the textbook, is $175.
