Men’s team makes big leaps

World Class Gymnastics Too in Suffolk, boasting a revitalized boys gymnastics program and a new men’s coach, Kareem Phillips, qualified all of its men’s team members for the Men’s Virginia State Championships.
The Level 5 and 6 team members’ state meet was held March 11. Ahmir Bass took gold in the vault in Level 5 and ranks eighth in the state. Evan Reichelderfer, also Level 5, took bronze on the still rings and parallel bars, gold on the high bar and silver for the all-around.
Christopher Ackiss, Level 6, took gold on the pommel horse, silver on the parallel bars and is ranked fourth in the state.
Individual results for World Class gymnasts were as follows:
Ahmir Bass, Level 5, age 9: floor, 10.00, 8th place; pommel horse, 9.60, 10th place; still rings, 9.20, 10th place; vault, 9.50, 1st place; parallel bars, 9.70, 5th place; high bar, 9.10, 9th place; all-around score, 57.10, 8th place
Evan Reichelderfer, Level 5, age 13: floor, 8.10, 6th place; pommel horse, 9.50, 4th place; still rings, 9.10, 3rd place; vault, 9.30, 4th place; parallel bars, 8.70, 3rd place; high bar, 9.30, 1st place; all-around, 54.00, 2nd place
Christopher Ackiss, Level 6, age 12: floor, 8.40, 7th place; pommel horse, 10.80, 1st place; still rings, 9.60, 5th place; vault, 8.70, 7th place; parallel bars, 9.90, 2nd place; high bar, 9.10, 4th place; all-around, 56.50; 4th place
All Level 5 and 6 team members qualified for the Men’s Region 7 Championships, held in Tinton Falls, N.J., on April 8. Region 7 consists of Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
At the regionals, Evan Reichelderfer, Level 5, took gold on the pommel horse and silver on the vault and the high bar. He ranks ninth in the region. Christopher Ackiss swept the pommel horse with another gold medal and ranks fourth in the region.

The Level 4 Men’s Virginia State championships will be held on April 29.
