The Suffolk Sheriff’s Office spread Easter hoppiness across Suffolk last week with the help of the Easter Bunny Foundation.

Deputies from the sheriff’s office went to four nursing homes and assisted living facilities — Kindred – Nansemond Pointe, Lake Prince Woods, Autumn Care and Bon Secours Maryview Nursing Care Center — to deliver stuffed bunnies. They also held an Easter egg hunt at Autumn Care for residents who were able to get outside and hunt.

“You put a smile on the people’s faces, just to watch them smile and laugh and enjoy a few minutes of being happy,” Sheriff E.C. Harris said.

“They look forward to it every year,” said Tameika Cross, activities director at Autumn Care.

The outreach program is funded by the Easter Bunny Foundation, which provides the stuffed bunnies to law enforcement agencies. Most agencies hand them out at children’s hospitals, but since Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk is covered by the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, the Suffolk Sheriff’s Office has special permission to hand them out at nursing homes, instead.
