Lady Saints win back to back

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy girls’ soccer team got its second win of the week after a victory over Norfolk Christian Wednesday.
After losing two games last week against some tough opponents, NSA came back this week with two wins. The girls picked up a 4-1 win over Peninsula Catholic High School at home on Tuesday.
Then, they defeated Norfolk Christian 4-2 on Wednesday with four different Lady Saints scoring goals.
“It feels great to get back in the win column,” Lady Saints coach J. Michael Dick said. “Our back line is doing well under Kelly Hogan’s leadership, and our offense seems to be back on track.”
The flow of the game was in the Lady Saints’ favor from the beginning. Dick believes this is one of the two best games he’s seen his team play so far.
“I don’t even think I had to say much to them at halftime,” he said. “There wasn’t a lot of corrective measures to be made. They were moving to the ball and communicating pretty well and were attacking from the outside.”
It was the second game in a row that the Lady Saints played in as they defeated Peninsula Catholic on Tuesday. The Lady Saints felt like their play last week didn’t really reflect how they played to start the season. This week they wanted to attack their two games with a mission and they did.
“Tuesday we came out a little bit slow, but as the game went on our mentality changed,” Lady Saint Abby Herrod said. “That momentum carried us over into Wednesday and it led to us being successful. I’m proud of the way our team fought this week.”
The Lady Saints hope to carry their successful week into next week. They have a tough week lined up next week as they take on Norfolk Academy and Cape Henry Collegiate. Both teams are considered among the top of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools. Last year, NSA defeated Norfolk Academy for the first time in school history.
NSA will face Norfolk Academy on the road at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
