64th Dems set primary election

The Democratic Legislative Nominating Committee for the 64th House District has selected the primary method to determine the Democratic candidate who will run for the Virginia House of Delegates seat being vacated by Republican Rick Morris.

Three Democratic candidates have declared their candidacy for the race. Statewide primary elections will be held June 13.

Candidates for the Democratic primary are:

  • Jerry A. Cantrell of Suffolk, a longtime educator and Coordinator of Student Services for Central Texas College’s Atlantic Division serving the military in Norfolk;
  • Rebecca S. Colaw of Suffolk resident, a veteran and owner of a law practice in that city;
  • And John J. Wandling of Isle of Wight County, a veteran and IT consultant and professional sailor.

The candidates each have a campaign website:

  • www.cantrellforvirginia.com for Cantrell;
  • www.colawfor64.com for Colaw;
  • And www.wandlingfordelegate.com for Wandling.

The deadline to update your address or register to vote in the primary is May 22.

“If a registered voter has moved since the last election, you must update your address with the Virginia Department of Elections by May 22 to be able to vote June 13 in the precinct where you now live,” IOWCDC Chairman Debra Church said.

Additionally, photo identification is required in Virginia to vote.
