Nansemond River High School DECA competed and won multiple awards at the Virginia State Leadership Conference held recently in Virginia Beach.

Alajah Gray, Shayla Silver and Danielle Smith competed in the Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan Event and created a Hostile Hotel in Virginia Beach for the Homeless and they received a Certificate of Achievement.

Kendall Chillous, Joshua Crocker, and Daniel Moore competed in the Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan Event and created an app for people to select jobs to be done.

Jamia Beach, Jaizhia Cole, and Nijha Shannon competed in the Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan Event and created a Fashion Show to donate the proceeds to the Endometriosis Foundation.

Kevin McCoy competed in the Entrepreneurship Start-Up Business Plan and he created the Silver Fox Transportation Service for the elderly and disabled.

Journey Mosley competed in the Entrepreneurship Start-Up Business Plan, and she created Nature Boxes, which were care packages that could be ordered online.

Daylan Bates, Tiecura Hill and Dylan Heyman competed in the Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan Event and created a Prom Fashion Show at Nansemond River High School and attended the Student Leadership Development Academy. Alajah Gray served as the voting delegate.

Nansemond River High School DECA Chapter received the Fortune 500 Award Trophy for submitting the DECA Program of Work Annual Report. They also received a Certificate for participating in Virginia DECA Day. The Chapter received a Certificate from YStreet for participating in the program this year.

Cydney Folsom received a plaque for serving as DECA’s District 21 Co-President.

S. Michele Duncan received a DECA Portfolio for serving as DECA’s District 21 Co-Advisor.

Candace Credle received a plaque for being the one and only New Teacher DECA Advisor Award for the state of Virginia.

S. Michele Duncan received a plaque for being an Outstanding DECA Advisor.

The DECA members had a great experience at the DECA State Conference and had an opportunity to network with students from all over the entire state of Virginia. The DECA members have an opportunity to attend the DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in April in the Ignite Leadership Development Academy and Elevate Chapter Management Academy.
