Fire burns 15 acres

Fifteen acres were burned in a brush fire off Deer Path Road on Sunday evening.
The fire in the 3800 block of Deer Path Road was reported at 4:52 p.m., and crews arrived at 5:03 p.m. to find a fire between the railroad bed and a swamp area that also extended into the nearby wood line, according to a city press release.
No residences were threatened, and there were no injuries.
A number of units from Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded, and mutual aid was provided by Isle of Wight, according to the press release. The Virginia Department of Forestry provided two plows.
The fire was called under control at 7:43 p.m. Deer Path Road was closed between Indian Trail and Milford Lane during the time of the fire.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
