A new Jamaican restaurant is coming to Suffolk.
A Taste of Jamaica will open in mid-April at 1024 Centerbrooke Lane in the Shops at Centerbrooke Village shopping center, according to co-owner Locksley Jones. The restaurant will occupy the space previously owned by Divine Creations Cupcakery and Desserts.
Locksley and his brothers and restaurant co-owners Lloyd and Lesmoore are originally from Kingston, Jamaica, and they will serve authentic Jamaican recipes for Suffolk lunch and dinner crowds.
“We are going to be doing authentic Jamaican food,” Locksley said.
The menu will have recognizable recipes like jerk or curry chicken served with rice, peas, fried plantains or cabbage with steamed carrots, along with more exotic offerings. Marinated curry goat will be served with authentic Jamaican curry, and soft ox tails seasoned and pressure cooked.
“People will taste it and find out how exciting the flavor is,” Locksley said.
He said new recipes will be added to the menu gradually, with free samples for patrons.
“People can taste it before they purchase it,” he said.
The goal is to keep the menu fresh with “grassroots” Jamaican recipes, according to Locksley.
“We are looking to bring Jamaica here,” he said.
