Suffolk police are investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian that was struck by a vehicle Saturday night.

The victim has been identified as Ryan Vannier, 23, of Suffolk.

The accident was reported in the 1400 block of Bridge Road at 9:19 p.m., according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found that an adult male was struck by a vehicle while in the roadway. The driver of the involved vehicle, a pickup truck, remained on the scene, according to the release.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel treated the man and transported him by ground ambulance to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, according to the release.

The northbound lane of the 1400 block of Bridge Road was shut down for several hours following the accident, with the southbound lane being used to alternate traffic.

The investigation remains ongoing.
