Good luck, ladies!

We imagine there’s a raucous spirit in the halls of King’s Fork High School this week.

Eight years after the boys’ basketball team won the school’s first state championship title with a huge, 49-47 comeback over William Fleming High School, the school’s girls’ team will try to mirror the accomplishment at Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday.

The Lady Bulldogs face long odds, as they will go up against unbeaten Monacan High School in the Virginia High School League’s Group 4A.

Monacan’s unbeaten streak includes a nine-point win over King’s Fork in the 4A East Region championship late last month.

But the Lady Bulldogs have worked hard to get this opportunity, and Monacan would be foolish to look at this game as anything short of a serious challenge. King’s Fork would avenge its loss, topple a giant and come out state champs with a win Friday night. That triple enticement to victory will be a great exhortation to the Suffolk team.

And back at home, the Lady Bulldogs will have not just their own school but all of Suffolk pulling for their win.

Good luck, ladies!
