Police investigate armed robbery

Suffolk police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Tuesday evening at the Washington Food Mart located in the 700 block of West Washington Street in downtown Suffolk.

The robbery was reported at 7:58 p.m., according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found an unknown, adult black male entered the business, displayed a firearm and demanded money, according to the release. The suspect fled on foot with an undetermined amount of currency.

The subject is further described as possibly 40 years of age, approximately 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and wearing a gray sweat suit, black gloves and black shoes with white soles.  

No one was injured during the incident.

Due to similarities to the armed robbery of the Domino’s Pizza in the 500 block of East Constance Road that occurred Monday, police believe the incidents may be related, according to the release.
